Forests are one of the main pillars of human survival. We all depend upon our forests to provide our daily basic needs and act as a natural barrier when calamities strike. However, unsustainable practices have led us to continue cannibalizing our resources at an extremely high rate, leading to deforestation and the loss of habitat for our most precious fauna. The collective effort to protect and restore our forests is more urgent than ever.

EDC BINHI led the formation of local forest protection groups in Leyte and Southern Negros to augment its manpower resources, promote a multi-stakeholder approach in forest protection, and enhance overall effectiveness by providing local context.
Community-based patrollers have deeper local knowledge on the forest areas and are more aware of existing threats. Additional patrollers from these local forest protection groups also enable more frequent foot patrols, which will also serve as a deterrent to potential violators.
In Leyte, EDC organized/supported forest protection brigades for six barangays in Ormoc City, as well as a Multi-sectoral Forest Protection Council (MFPC) composed of representatives from the DENR, LGU of Ormoc City, Capoocan, Albuera, and Kananga, Philippine National Police (PNP), Philippine Coast Guard, Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), environmental NGOs, and media.
In Negros Occidental, EDC continued its support to the Kanlaon Green Brigade (KGB) in Brgy. Mailum and Brgy. Minoyan. In Negros Oriental, EDC organized the Task Force Bantay Kabtangan (TFBK) in its host barangay, Brgy. Puhagan, in the Municipality of Valencia, that contributed to zero forest fire incidents in the barangay. The Company also continued to support the province-wide Negros Oriental Anti-Illegal Logging Task Force (NOAILTF).
